The International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI) Technical Committees Spring Meeting was held April 7-8 in Hamburg, Germany. As a major European port city and hometown of IUMI, Hamburg is now the permanent location of the Spring meeting for secretaries, committees and forum members.
Isabelle Therrien, Vice President of Falvey Cargo Underwriting and Vice Chair of the IUMI Cargo Technical Committee, was in attendance along with 131 IUMI Technical Committee members from 25 different countries. These experienced marine underwriters gathered from around the world to discuss a range of topics affecting the industry.
Program highlights include meetings for the Cargo, Fact and Figures, and Loss Prevention Committees, as well as working groups focused on digital and big data. Monday’s schedule also included several interesting presentations, such as Containership Fires, Protection of Intellectual Property, ISPM 15, and more.
“The IUMI Spring Technical committee meetings are the “think tank” of the Annual IUMI conference,” says Isabelle. “Members of the technical committees discuss issues at the forefront of the marine insurance industry, with a goal to set up discussion topics for the annual conference workshops. As vice chair of the Cargo Technical committee, we had productive meetings that will yield a very interesting Cargo workshop at the Toronto conference this September.”
In her dual role as Vice President at Falvey Cargo and President of the Canadian Board of Marine Underwriters (CBMU), Isabelle gave a brief presentation at the end of the day on Monday to advise attendees that registration is now open for IUMI 2019, which is hosted by the CBMU, and will be held September 15-18, 2019, in Toronto.
