Karen Coppa is this month’s featured team member, bringing both a talent for management and an eye for detail to her roles over the past 15 years.
Karen is Falvey Cargo’s manager for underwriting administration and an account executive. As manager, Karen juggles a wide variety of responsibilities, including: training underwriting technical assistants on systems and procedures, working with cargo operations on compliance, and liaising with operations and IT departments to implement system changes. She also fields the team’s day-to-day procedural questions. As an account executive, the other half of Karen’s role, she underwrites renewal accounts for her assigned brokers.
“My colleagues are my favorite part of working for Falvey, hands down,” Karen says. “I am very blessed to work with an awesome team of professionals every day. They are like an extension of my family.”
Karen began her insurance career at Settle Agency in Danbury, CT (since acquired by Rose Kiernan). She started as the receptionist/transcriber and worked her way up to account manager for a book of small contractors. Next, Karen moved to Rhode Island and became an account manager for AON, focusing on financial institutions. She then took an opportunity to join a startup agency, Smith, Mack & Associates (acquired by OceanPoint Insurance) before coming on board with Falvey in 2004.
Karen and her husband have two sons, and the family enjoys traveling together to explore the beautiful United States and many countries in Europe. Karen also enjoys reading, hiking, baking, and spending time with family and friends at her lake house.
